Imagine being able to play a complete baseball
game on your kitchen table. A reproduction of Harry Obst's
original card game from 1962, the game includes 54 illustrated
play cards, a baseball “diamond”, an outfield
scoreboard, both updated and original rules, a card reference
sheet, and a history of Harry's Grand Slam Baseball Game,
all conveniently housed in a sturdy tin.
The cards are shuffled and three cards are dealt to
each player (the team manager.) Players take turns playing
cards on the diamond that help their team score when
at bat, or they play defensively when in the field. Cards
indicate typical baseball plays and are identified as
out, on base, and runner cards, or special pinch hitter
and relief pitcher cards. Red squares on the corners
of the cards indicate the number of bases to advance
each runner; the white circles represent outs. After
three “outs” the other team gets to bat.
Just
like Major League Baseball, some innings progress more
quickly than others. And because each turn requires participation
and decision making, players are always a part of the
game.
