Wallamoppi by Out of the Box is a new stacking game
of manual dexterity and speed with a bit of an Australian
motif. The nature of the game places it in the same
category as Jenga and Block Head, making it a relatively
straightforward design. The game comes in a sturdy
wooden box that actually serves as a primary component
of the play, the timer. This is done with a simple
marble run down which a marble is let roll in the
main play mode. For a more leisurely game, the marbles
can just be set aside.
The objectives of the game are quite simple. After
a preliminary setup phase that builds the stacking
discs into a wall, the two players alternate stacking
chips of their selected color atop the wall. From
there, the play proceeds as summarized on the product
website:
“Fun is in the Balance! In a race against
time, players attempt to "one up" each
other by pulling Kiwi Disks from a teetering wall,
and daring to stack them ever higher. The last
player to successfully stack a disk, before the
timer marble drops out of sight, wins Wallamoppi!”
Wallamoppi is a brisk game for two. The components
are solidly designed, with polished, light play
disks that are easily slid from their starting
position and put into play. The rules are clearly
outlined in a full color, glossy sheet with photographic
images of the play pieces. The only thing missing
from the design is a secure storage for the timer
marbles that are left to roll free or get lost
in the disk bag. Whether playing in the
competitive mode or without the timer, this game
is a grand find. In fact, that may be part of the chief problem
with the game. It has proven so popular the producers
are currently out of stock. Fortunately, they have
a notify option already in place. So, check it
out today.
